Most of you have now heard about the tragic passing of American rapper and songwriter, Nipsey Hussle. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends…
There exists suspicion that Nipsey’s death is connected with his goal to highlight the medical accomplishments of Dr. Sebi in a documentary. Whether this is truth or not is for discussion on another platform. What this post does is zone in on the life of Dr. Sebi.
Dr. Sebi, also known as Alfredo Darrington Bowman, claimed to cure all diseases with herbs and a unique herb-based diet. Although not a certified medical doctor, he was an herbal healer dissatisfied with traditional medication. Sebi came to the United States as a self-educated man who was diagnosed with asthma, diabetes, impotence, and obesity. After unsuccessful treatments with conventional doctors & medicines, Sebi consulted an herbalist in Mexico. Finding great healing from all his ailments, he began creating natural vegetable cell food compounds geared for inter-cellular cleansing and the revitalisation of all the cells that make up the human body.
Dr. Sebi also claimed to cure HIV/AIDS using his treatment, known as “African Bio-Electric Cell Food Therapy”. After a lawsuit was consequently filed against his claims, Dr. Sebi represented himself in the New York Supreme Court. He brought more than 77 witnesses to testify in his defence during trial, including relevant files and documents. Dr. Sebi won the case and he was acquitted!
Before his passing in 2016, Dr. Sebi had dedicated over 30 years of his life to develop a unique methodology obtained through years of empirical knowledge. During his lifetime, he advised celebrities like John Travolta, Lisa Lopez and Eddie Murphy.
Dr. Sebi is not the first proponent of healing using herbs. Hippocrates of Kos, the ancient Greek physician who is regarded the father of Western medicine, used herbs to heal (herbalism) all patient sicknesses which existed during his time. He stated that undigested residues were produced by an unsuitable diet and these residues excreted ‘vapours’, which passed into the body and produced diseases. Hippocrates argued that disease was the product of environmental factors, diet, and living habits. He thus believed in the healing power of nature. Herbs he used on his patients include dill, garlic, turmeric, willow, parsley and tamarind.
Hippocrates’ famous and unforgettable words are: “Let your foods be your medicines, and your medicines your food.”
I know people who through healthier diets reversed diabetes conditions. I also know of people living with HIV whose diets are so healthy that their CD4 count is high enough such that the virus becomes difficult to detect!
Last year, I published a post about the power of superfoods to prevent illnesses such as cancer and fibroids. The aim of this conversation is not to shoot down modern medicine or the pharmaceuticals industry. Rather, the objective is to shine light on the fact that not in a world where the minority is able to access decent healthcare, dietary diversity becomes pertinent. Not everyone can afford certain medication or supplements either, particularly in a country like South Africa with a stark divide between public and private healthcare services. Therefore, for the sake of the health of nations, education about the importance dietary diversity and nutrition by alternative practitioners and holistic doctors should reach more eyes and ears.
I am curious though: What are your thoughts on the notion that the solutions and remedies of alternative/holistic medical practitioners are being ‘dimmed’ from the public? Please comment below!
The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.
Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.
